As holiday shoppers gear up for the season, artificial intelligence is becoming an unlikely but growing shopping companion. Retailers and tech firms are rolling out AI-based tools that promise to transform how people hunt for gifts — offering personalised suggestions, real-time price tracking, and even one-click ordering.
Platforms from Amazon and ChatGPT to Google and others are now enabling shoppers to bypass traditional search filters or browsing lists. Instead, users interact with chat- or agent-based assistants that interpret natural-language wishes — such as “gift ideas under ₹3000 for a 10-year-old” — and generate curated lists with reviews, price comparisons and purchase links.
AI also simplifies deal-hunting. New tools let users set price alerts or automatically buy when an item drops below a threshold. Retailers hope this convenience will reduce shopping friction and influence a growing share of gift-buying decisions this season.
Despite this momentum, adoption remains gradual. Analysts observe that many consumers still rely on traditional browsing — partly because not all e-commerce platforms offer effective AI tools, and many shoppers are hesitant to change habits.
For brands and retailers, this shift signals change not just in tools, but in the underlying discovery journey — from “search bar → many pages → pick one” to “chat → curated recommendations → instant buy.” Those who build or offer smarter AI-driven shopping experiences may have an edge in the holiday rush.
