Money Times Talk (MTTs) – 12/08/2026

  • Value Buy: On 7 July 2026, POLUNIN Emerging Markets Small Cap Fund LLC bought 44.19 lakh shares of IOLCP at Rs.166.65. The stock is now available at attractive valuations, promoters have increased their stake by 9.66% in the last two quarters, and Q1 results are due on 10 August 2026. It may surpass its 52-week high of Rs.179.

  • Big alert for F&O & option traders As per market grapevine, expiring derivative contracts based on the closing auction price is considered a risky move. While developed markets like the U.S. also follow a closing auction mechanism, key differences remain. U.S. exchanges publish buy/sell order imbalances, designated market makers provide liquidity, stock lending and borrowing is seamless, and there is no Securities Transaction Tax (STT). Hence, reduce F&O and options trading, avoid overtrading, leverage, and margin trading/investment funding (MTF).

  • Wealthy investors focus more on protecting wealth than growing it because preserving capital becomes equally important as wealth creation. A 50% loss requires a 100% gain to recover. Successful investors prioritise risk management, diversification, liquidity, and downside protection. Wealth is created through smart risks but preserved by staying invested long enough for compounding to work.

  • Not every market fall is a bear market: A correction is typically a decline of around 10% or more from recent highs and is a normal part of investing. The key is to stay disciplined and focused on long-term goals. Volatility is temporary, while discipline creates lasting wealth.

  • Psychology plays a crucial role in trading: Many traders form a market bias within minutes of the opening bell and spend the day trying to justify it. Fear of missing a trade often exceeds the pain of an actual loss. One undisciplined trade can wipe out weeks of gains, while many traders unknowingly chase losses instead of following the market.

  • Position sizing is one of the biggest lessons in trading. When trades succeed, investors wish they had invested more; when they fail, they wish they had invested less. Professional traders let risk management determine position size rather than emotions. Successful trading is about survival, not prediction.
