Tensions in the Middle East remain elevated after US Vice President JD Vance said that “all options” remain on the table against Iran, while ruling out immediate negotiations until attacks on commercial shipping stop.
The latest comments have increased concerns that the conflict could escalate further and affect shipping routes across the Persian Gulf. The Strait of Hormuz remains especially important because it is a crucial route for global crude oil and LNG supplies.
Any prolonged disruption to shipping could push freight and insurance costs higher and create fresh inflationary pressures globally. For India, the conflict is particularly important because the country remains heavily dependent on imported crude oil.
Markets will therefore closely track military developments and any possibility of renewed diplomatic negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
