Money Times Talk (MTTs) – 01/10/2026

  • As per market grapevine, despite economic growth, Indian equities have remained subdued due to valuations, slower earnings, FII outflows, higher rates and global uncertainty. In such an environment, stock selection becomes more important, with focus on companies showing strong earnings growth, promoter confidence, rising order books and improving fundamentals.

  • Huge negative for Indian economy, bulls and equity/mutual fund investors: Over 180 scientists and ecologists have warned about the potential risks from a very strong El Niño, including drought, extreme heat and wildfires. IMD has also indicated that El Niño could strengthen further during October-December 2026, making rainfall, agriculture and inflation key risks to monitor.

  • Many popular stocks are down sharply from their highs: Alok Industries -87.95%, Astral -43.1%, Atul -45.3%, Bata India -50%, CE Info -55%, Cohance Life -53%, CRISIL -35.1%, Cyient -56%, DEN Networks -89.54%, Deepak Nitrite -49.3%, Gland Pharma -32.2%, GTPL Hathway -81.85%, Godfrey Phillips -50%, Hathway Cable -86.94%, HCL Technologies -37%, Hindustan Copper -32.2%, HG Infra -55%, Infosys -48%, Inox Wind -52%, Jio Financial -43.04%, Just Dial -64.69%, KEC International -57%, KPIT Tech -70%, Kaynes Tech -54%, Mphasis -37%, Network18 -95.72%, Newgen Software -52%, Oil India -38.9%, PNC Infra -67%, Premier Energies -34.5%, Reliance Industries -23.91%, SpiceJet -80%, Sonata Software -68%, Sterling & Wilson -78.74%, Sula Vineyards -53%, Syngene -50%, Tata Elxsi -70%, TCS -54%, Whirlpool -50%, V-Guard -45.3%, Waaree Energies -34.8%, Wipro -55%, Zensar Tech -50% and many more. The lesson: even quality businesses may deliver poor returns if bought at excessive valuations. Investment needs both stock selection and entry-exit discipline. Review holdings every 3 months as business, technology and market conditions change.

  • As per market veteran, the Endowment Effect can make investors overvalue stocks or funds simply because they own them. A useful discipline is to ask: “If I did not own this investment today, would I still buy it?”

  • Fear sells, greed buys, wisdom waits: Investors often panic during declines and chase rallies. Long-term investing requires patience, research and discipline rather than reacting to every market move.
