• Friday night closing: Dow Jones gained 423 points, Nasdaq rose 173 points and S&P 500 advanced 46 points. However, GIFT Nifty fell 27 points to 23,237, signalling a mildly negative opening for Indian markets on Monday, subject to weekend developments. Brent crude at around $104.43 is a major concern for the Indian economy and equity mutual fund investors.

• Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is in Singapore from October 9 to October 11, 2026. Her meetings with Singapore’s leadership, global CEOs, institutional investors and fund managers focus on FDI, capital markets, taxation, digital finance, semiconductors, advanced manufacturing, healthcare and aviation. She is also scheduled to meet executives from GIC, Temasek, DBS, Standard Chartered, British International Investment, IHH Healthcare, MUFG, B Capital, HPS Investment Partners, TPG and Mitsui.

• Brent crude above $80 is a major negative for India, with prices now around $104.43. El Niño-related drought risks and heavy IPO, OFS and QIP activity could add economic pressure and drain secondary-market liquidity. Market participants fear that without urgent government action to restore confidence, investors may stop SIPs and shift towards bank FDs and bonds. The market will also watch the Fed’s October 27–28, 2026 meeting for any rate decision.
