Power Grid Corporation of India has received a Letter of Intent worth Rs.1,152.49 cr. for establishing an interstate transmission system connected with renewable-energy projects in Gujarat.
The project involves integration of power from the Lakadia Renewable Energy Zone Phase-II, which has an envisaged capacity of around 7,500 MW. It will be developed under the Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) model.
The project will also involve setting up a new 765/400 kV Lakadia-II substation, strengthening transmission infrastructure required to evacuate renewable power.
The order further supports Power Grid’s position as India’s largest interstate power-transmission utility. The company currently operates more than 1.86 lakh circuit kilometres of transmission lines and 292 substations, according to its latest operational data.
Renewable-energy evacuation projects are expected to remain a significant growth opportunity as India expands solar and wind capacity across the country.
