Tata Power Ltd. has entered into a partnership with Norway-based Ocean Sun to explore membrane-based floating solar technology in India. As part of the collaboration, a 300 kWp pilot project will be developed at the Mulshi reservoir in Maharashtra.
The pilot will assess the performance, scalability and maintenance requirements of Ocean Sun’s floating solar technology under Indian operating conditions. The project is expected to generate data that can help evaluate the suitability of the technology for larger floating solar installations.
The partnership adds another technology-focused initiative to Tata Power’s renewable-energy portfolio. Floating solar projects can make use of existing water bodies while reducing the need for additional land, making the technology relevant to India’s expanding renewable-energy capacity.
