Former U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that the United States is moving to approve the export of advanced artificial-intelligence (AI) chips to Saudi Arabia.
According to people familiar with the matter, the approvals could come as part of a broader U.S.–Saudi AI agreement, potentially greenlighting a “negotiated volume” of sales of high-performance semiconductors. The move would mark a significant shift in U.S. policy, following tightened export controls on AI chips in recent years.
The chips in question are expected to be used by Humain, a Saudi state-backed AI company under the Public Investment Fund, which has already struck deals with Nvidia and AMD to build large-scale data centers.
Critics argue that easing export rules could pose national-security risks, while others see it as a strategic effort to deepen U.S.-Saudi tech ties.
