Indian equity benchmarks were expected to open higher on Friday, October 23, following three consecutive sessions of losses. GIFT Nifty futures indicated a potentially positive start after the Nifty 50 closed Thursday at 22,687.65. However, the Sensex and Nifty had both fallen by approximately 2% over the week, reflecting pressure from global uncertainty and rising energy prices.
Brent crude was trading around US$113.50 per barrel in the latest pre-market report, amid escalating tensions in the Middle East. Asian markets also faced pressure following a technology-led sell-off in the United States, where concerns about artificial intelligence spending affected investor sentiment.
Investors will be watching quarterly earnings, foreign institutional flows, crude-oil prices and global market movements. A higher opening would not necessarily indicate a sustained recovery, particularly if elevated energy prices continue to raise concerns about inflation and India’s import bill.
