Crude-oil prices rose in early trading on Wednesday as concerns over Red Sea shipping disruptions and possible threats to Saudi energy infrastructure increased uncertainty about global supply. Brent crude rose approximately 1.5% to above US$110 per barrel, according to Reuters. Higher oil prices are particularly important for India because the country relies heavily on imported crude.
Meanwhile, gold remained under pressure, trading near US$4,120 per ounce, while silver weakened towards US$57.5 per ounce, according to market updates published on Wednesday. Bullion prices have been influenced by movements in the US dollar, interest-rate expectations and concerns that higher energy costs could keep inflation elevated.
The contrasting movements show how geopolitical risks can affect commodities differently. Supply concerns can push oil higher, while interest-rate expectations and currency movements may weigh on precious metals. Indian retail gold and silver prices can differ from international benchmarks because of exchange rates, duties and local taxes, so domestic rates should be checked separately.
