Russia and Ukraine have signalled a willingness to resume US-mediated peace negotiations, potentially in Abu Dhabi around the middle of November. The diplomatic activity follows efforts by US envoy Steve Witkoff to restart discussions, while a limited local ceasefire was also arranged to allow humanitarian aid to reach a town in Ukraine’s Kherson region.
Despite the renewed diplomatic push, missile and drone attacks have continued, and the two sides remain far apart on territory and security guarantees. A possible return to negotiations is not the same as a ceasefire or a peace agreement. The conflict continues to influence defence spending, energy markets, trade routes and investor confidence, with further developments likely to affect geopolitical risk perceptions.
