Russia launched a major wave of attacks against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure ahead of planned US-brokered peace discussions in Abu Dhabi. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said the assault involved 289 drones, 17 ballistic missiles and 59 cruise missiles. Power plants and substations were among the reported targets, leading to electricity, water and transport disruptions in several areas.
Ukraine also reported casualties in different regions, while the country’s energy companies faced further operational challenges as winter approaches. Russia said it had targeted Ukrainian military units and energy facilities supplying the military. The attacks have raised concerns about the country’s energy security and the humanitarian impact of continued strikes.
The proposed peace discussions scheduled for November 10–11 are being closely watched, although no broader ceasefire agreement has been announced.
