Indian benchmark indices opened higher on Tuesday, October 6, extending the recovery seen in the previous session. At around 9:18 a.m., the Nifty 50 was up 0.11% at 22,581.25, while the Sensex gained 0.10% to 72,445.54.
Banking and financial stocks led the early gains after several lenders reported healthy growth in advances and deposits in their September-quarter business updates. Axis Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank were among the notable gainers, while the broader small-cap and mid-cap indices also opened in positive territory.
The market is also taking cues from softer crude prices and reduced expectations of aggressive US monetary tightening following weaker-than-expected US employment data. However, elevated bond yields and continued foreign investor selling remain areas of concern for domestic equities.
