Indian equity benchmarks advanced on Thursday, supported by buying in information technology, financial and heavyweight stocks. By around 10:12 a.m. IST, the Nifty 50 had climbed 1.15% to 22,881.90, while the BSE Sensex gained 1.21% to 73,656.40.
IT stocks led the advance after recent quarterly results from major technology companies improved sentiment. Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services and HCLTech gained around 3% each, while private-sector banks and Reliance Industries also contributed to the rise. However, smaller companies showed a weaker trend, with the small-cap index declining despite gains in the benchmark indices.
Investors remain cautious about stronger-than-expected US inflation, which could influence the Federal Reserve’s interest-rate outlook. The earnings calendar, foreign investment flows and movements in global markets will remain important for the next phase of trading.
