- Nifty Extends Gains, But Is the Rally Sustainable?
- 1. Global Market:
- On Wednesday, all three major US indices closed in the red after the Federal Reserve, as expected, kept interest rates unchanged in its first monetary policy meeting of 2025. The #Dow declined 0.31%, the #Nasdaq edged down 0.24%, and the S&P 500 finished 0.47% lower.
- Going ahead, for S&P 500, the zone of 6080-6100 will act as an immediate hurdle. On the downside, the 20-day EMA zone of 6020-6000 will act as immediate support for the index.
- #BrentOil slipped by nearly 1 percent on Wednesday. Going ahead, any sustainable move below the $75 level will lead to further selling pressure in the index upto the $73.80 level.
- On Wednesday, the U.S. Dollar Index (#DXY) failed to sustain above its 20-day EMA level and thereafter witnessed a minor correction. Going ahead, the zone of 107-106.90 will act as a crucial support for the index.
- 2. Nifty View:
- Nifty extended its pullback rally on Wednesday, closing positive for the second straight session. On the daily chart, it formed a bullish candle, while the daily RSI’s bullish crossover signals limited downside for now.
- Notably, broader indices outshined the frontline benchmarks, with Nifty Midcap and Nifty Small Cap 100 forming sizeable bullish candles on the daily scale, reflecting strong momentum.
- Going ahead, for Nifty, the zone of 23300-23330 will act as an immediate hurdle for the index. If the index surges above the level of 23330, then we may witness a sharp short-covering rally upto the level of 23500 in the short term.
- On the downside, the zone of 23000-22970 will act as immediate support for the index.
- On the #derivatives front, January #futures surged by 0.74 percent, while the combined #OpenInterest for the current, next, and far series also surged by 1.09 percent, which indicates an overall long build up.
- Among the constituents of the #Nifty index, 18 stocks have witnessed a long build-up, and 23 stocks have witnessed a short covering rally. While 6 stocks have witnessed a short build-up, and 3 stocks have witnessed a long unwinding.
- The 23200 strike has significant call open interest, followed by the 23300 strike. On the put side, 23100 has a substantial open interest, followed by a 23000 strike.
- For the January monthly series, OI PCR is at 1.02.
- Bank Nifty also ended on a positive note on Tuesday. Going ahead, the 20-day EMA zone of 49250-49300 will act as an immediate hurdle for the index. If the index sustains above the level of 49300, then we may witness a sharp short-covering rally. While, on the downside, the zone of 48800-48700 will act as immediate support for the index.
- 3. Sensex View:
- The benchmark index #Sensex also ended on a positive note for the second consecutive trading session. The daily RSI has given a bullish crossover, which indicates a limited downside for now.
- Going ahead, the zone of 76900-77000 will act as an immediate hurdle for the index. While, on the downside, 76100-76000 will act as crucial support for the index.
- On the #derivative front, February weekly #futures surged by 0.67 percent, and the #OpenInterest of the current series has dipped by 6.48 percent, which indicates an overall short-covering rally.
- The 77000 strike has significant call open interest, followed by the 77500 strike. On the put side, 76500 has a substantial open interest, followed by a 76000 strike.
- For the February weekly series, OI PCR is at 0.89.
- 4. Key Market Indicators:
- The volatility index, India #VIX, surged by over 2 percent on Wednesday. Also, it is trading above its short and long-term moving averages, which is a bullish sign. This indicates that overall market volatility has increased significantly ahead of major event, i.e. Union Budget.
- The #Advance/Decline ratio was largely tilted in favor of advancers.
- 5. Key Sectors:
- Technically, Nifty Private Bank and Nifty Financial Services are likely to outperform in the short term.
- 6. FII/DII Data:
- #FIIs sold to the tune of 2586.43 cr. while #DIIs bought to the tune of 1792.71 cr.
- FIIs' Long short ratio for index futures is at 24.84 as on a net basis, they bought 12496 index futures.
- On the stock #futures front, FIIs have bought to the tune of 43431 contracts, while on the #Options Front, FIIs bought 217315 call contracts and bought 190796 Put Option contracts.
